The history of BB&T Bank traces way back to 1872 when Alpheus Branch and Thomas Jefferson created the Branch and Hadley Merchant Bank in Wilson, North Carolina. In 1887, the bank was rebranded as Branch and Company when Branch purchased all the shares of Hadley. The name finally changed to Branch Banking and Trust Company (formed by Branch, Gen.
