History: The Jordanian dinar (JD) is the official currency of Jordan. There is a set abbreviation for the currency which is JOD. Piastres are used as change for the Jordanian dinar.The coins are also known as qirsh. One JOD has 100 piastres. Formally, the qirsh is divided into fils, but the latter one is not used in circulation. The modern coins are minted out of copper, nickel and brass. The currency has been issued since 1950, replacing the outdated Palestinian pound.
