History: The Ghanaian cedi (GH₵) is the currency used in circulation in Ghana. The currency is not used outside the country. Globally, the currency is denoted as GHS.The Ghanaian cedi uses pesewa as change. One cedi equals 100 pesewas. In 1965, the cedi became the sole currency in the country. Before that, Ghana had changed its currency several times. Since the country was a British colony, its territory allowed pounds sterling and later on, it was replaced with the West African pound.
