History: Afghani (؋) is the currency of Afghanistan which is not used for payment in other countries. A simplified name is AFN. One afghani equals 100 pul coins.Afghani has been being issued since 1926. Originally, only coins made out of silver were used on the territory of the Islamic state. First notes were printed in 1935. The Afghan rupee had been used hand in hand with afghani until 1978. Up until 2002, there had been different types of afghani used in the country and issued by different military and political organizations: “davlati” and “dostumi”, but the new leader, Hamid Karzai, reformed the currency leaving only one type of afghani.
